D is for Darts

Who knew those little pleated seams had a reason and function!? Me. I live and breathe altering my clothes using the previously sewn darts, they make life SO much easier!

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, a dart is a small fold becoming narrower towards one end which is sewn into a piece of clothing to make it fit better. For those fellow beginner seamstresses out there, I found this nifty little drawing at about.com to help illustrate what would happen if I had a few extra Twinkies and busted a dart:image

If you’re into the iconic wiggle skirt, then darts are definitely going to be your friend. Head to your local tailor and have the wonderful person adjust the darts so you get that perfect curve!  These are also great for adjusting sheath dresses to get the Audrey Hepburn perfect fit.
