I thought in the beginning that marriage would be this lovely thing. And it is mostly, but when it’s fighting, it’s fighting at it’s worst. Sometimes it’s good to stop and take stock of things. Recently I asked Mr. LAA a few questions and answered them in return. I think this practice went far for realizing what we value in the other, and what we don’t, and adjust a few misgivings from there.
When I interviewed the Mister:
What is a surprising thing you didn’t expect this year? To be married
Other than our engagement and wedding and reception and honeymoon, what was the best moment? (A moment being a few hours to five minutes.) Dancing at the band banquet, Disney trip
What’s something we’ve failed at? understanding
What’s something we’re totally good at? Getting over it
What’s a bonus quality in me that you didn’t expect to get? You like doing things for me…I think
Seriously, what was the worst thing I made you do? Currently… Working together on a few projects that has been a true pain
Start doing: I need to start communicating, organizing
Stop doing: I need to stop assuming and having a pity party
Continue doing: I need to continue loving you
What’s something we’ve failed at? Understanding ….understanding what? Being more understanding with each other.
Start doing: You need to start relaxing more
Stop doing: You need to stop worrying
Continue doing: You need to continue loving me and all of my issues
When I got interviewed by the Mister:
What is a surprising thing you didn’t expect this year? To be married
Other than our engagement and wedding and reception and honeymoon, what was the best moment? (A moment being a few hours to five minutes.) Seattle, watching you run, enjoying band as much as I did.
What’s something we’ve failed at? Fighting. We need to learn to fight better.
What’s something we’re totally good at? Aligning and tackling a goal.
What’s a bonus quality in me that you didn’t expect to get? Having you listen to me, understand and follow through when you say you will do something.
Seriously, what was the worst thing I made you do? Currently… Working together on a few projects that has been a true pain
Start doing: I need to start learning how to not worry, and not care so much.
Stop doing: I need to stop being so sensitive.
Continue doing: I need to continue realizing what makes you happy and do that.
What’s something we’ve failed at?
Start doing: You need to start making time for you, us and life.
Stop doing: You need to stop walking off.
Continue doing: You need to continue committing. You’re doing really well.
