Mix and bake for 35 minutes.
Boil 1 ½ C Milk, ¼ C + 1 heaping T of flour and pinch of salt until combined. Let cool.
Using electric mixer, transfer hot mixture and add 3 t of vanilla and 1 ½ C of sugar. Beating in 1 ½ – 2 ½ C of crisco until consistency of icing is reached.
This is my mom’s homemade chocolate cake and heart attack “butter”cream frosting. I can say that this isn’t the BEST cake overall, this is the BEST cake from my memories as a kid. It’s moist, it tastes like mom made this for you when you were extra good that day. It’s not overly sweet cake, it’s overly sweet icing. It’s not overwhelming, or underwhelming – it’s homestyle. The best way to be.
